The Lighthouse and the Whaler - Listen to the New Single “I Want To Feel Alive”

When we last caught up with Cleveland band The Lighthouse and the Whaler, it was at one of their last hometown performances before a short break in touring. Fortunately for us, the time since then has been well-spent: the band was writing and recording for their Roll Call Records debut, Mont Royal.

“The overall theme, to me, is about growing up, realizing who you are and accepting the good and bad in that,” says singer Michael LoPresti of the new album, which he wrote primarily in the summer of 2014. “I hope people see themselves inside the songs.”

Having recorded the songs over a six week period in Montreal with producer Marcus Paquin (Stars, Arcade Fire, Local Natives), the album takes its title from the street where the band lived during the recording process. Titling the album after their adopted home is just another example of how the forthcoming work grapples with growing up and deciding who you are.

“It’s a broad subject, but it underlines how we see the world and ourselves and how we are going to go about life from there,” says mandolin player Mark Porostosky.
